Retroarch neo geo android1/20/2024 ![]() ![]() A good example is the transparency effects (also known as raster effects, something that is a bit heavy to emulate) in MAME2003-Plus's neogeo emulation, they are a bit broken (the transparency effect is done through blinking, however the blinking is way too visible in MAME2003-Plus) and i doubt there is any plan to fix them.Īnother reason to use FBNeo over MAME2003-Plus for neogeo emulation would be runahead support. Or not, the purpose of MAME2003-Plus is to stay playable fullspeed on a Pentium 3 733Mhz (the Xbox OG the author own), fixes that would involve a major performance impact would be dismissed. If you find one, there's as issue tracker, it can be fixed, just like with any other maintained software. That doesn't happen with MAME 2003-Plus and yes, it is a very important thing to consider, so I wouldn't dismiss it so easily.Įxcept you are wrong about that, MAME2003-Plus is also updating romsets from time to time, i know first place since the author (arcadez) is a good friend of our team (i'm a FBNeo dev btw), and sometimes he needs a bit of help to hook new mcu dumps. Oh, so this was also about the romsets not ease don't say the same thing twice in 2 different ways, this is confusing, you make it sound like there are multiple reasons. There are pros and cons to both cores and you can just pick the reasons you care the most about. Now that all cards are on the table, everyone can make an informed decision by themselves. But there can be good reasons to use another emulator. I use FBNeo for those, just not for NeoGeo due to the reasons above. That doesn't happen with MAME 2003-Plus and yes, it is a very important thing to consider, so I wouldn't dismiss it so easily. ![]() Yes, it is too much of a hassle, specially for people who don't know how arcade emulation works, which is most people.Īlso, you only find out that your game broke the exact moment you want to play it, which is the worst possible moment, even if once in a decade. Is downloading the newer version of a few romsets every 10 years such a big deal ? FBAlpha/FBNeo is a very active project with exciting features added. If you were using the FBAlpha core we recommend you move to the new FBNeo core by updating your core list and info files. If you find one, there's as issue tracker, it can be fixed, just like with any other maintained software. Due to a controversy, all devs bar one from FinalBurn Alpha moved to a new fork called FinalBurn Neo. There are no obvious bugs on NeoGeo games. It's actively maintained for compatibility fixes. Just look at the neogeo changelog between mame 0.78 and now It won't break your games that are already working. I mean backwards incompatible changes are not accepted. You said "it's stable", meaning it's not crashing i guess ? dozens of fixes, literally, just look at the neogeo changelog between mame 0.78 and now, there are more than an hundred lines and most of them are fixesĪnd with FBNeo, you can even use retroachievements. ![]() Now some real reasons to use a more recent emulator : Neogeo games aren't something that has been constantly redumped over the years, and there is always a very good reason for redumoing something, most of the time that means the older dump was corrupt and prevented the game to actually work as it should. you said "the romset is stable", which means "the romsets aren't changing" i guess, the lazyness argument, fine, but actually most neogeo dumps from mame2003-plus are still usable with more recent emulators. I am only using Retroarch Plus 64bit version from the playstore, no other emulators etc.- you said "it's stable", meaning it's not crashing i guess ? well, it's not as if neogeo emulation was something very unstable in other emulators either, so how is that even an argument ? Tried replacing bios files within the Retroarch system folder.Īgain, it's very odd as the rom files themselves are perfectly fine as they run through Retroarch Plus natively. Tried all the various core options from within Launchbox when trying to run Neogeo games. Deleted everything and re-scanned about 3 times over. Moved Launchbox folder to internal storage from my external HDD where it defaulted itself. But it's when I try to run Neogeo games through launchbox that I will get a message on screen (seemingly through retroarch as my bezels show etc) stating something along the lines of "rom files such and such.missing etc" or even a black screen. i have retroarch on my tablet, and many consoles work fine (snes, ms, etc) but neo geo i just cant work out its multiple bin files & they say it needs 1 bin. If I launch a Neogeo game through Retroarch Plus using the FBNeo core, it works no problem. After a bunch of messing around, I have been able to get everything working so far except NeoGeo. ![]()
